Athletes race in the local OSZ race series to qualify for provincial and national championships.
Junior athletes also may race in the province wide CJP series.
In ski racing the role of clubs is to attract athletes to skiing and to prepare them, if they desire and qualify, to proceed onwards into regional, provincial and national elite programs.
Club teams participate in zone level race series’ at all levels.
Club MSM athletes may qualify for the National Capital Outaouais (NCO) elite team at the K2 level and above.
At the Junior level there is a Quebec provincial team selection process.
Athletes participate as individuals in 4 age categories:
The OSZ also runs a Nancy Greene Ski series for athletes from 6 to 12 years of age who choose to participate in a team racing format. The NG team races under the banner of Club Mont Ste Marie however, the programme is run by the Mont Ste Marie Ski School.

I Started racing at 5 years of age in Nancy Greene at Cascade. From there I continued every year at Cascade until making the NCO (what was then the Outaouais Zone team) as a first year K2. I raced two years K2 on Outaouais Zone team and 2 years FIS on NCO.I Started coaching in Fall of 2002 at MSM and Have been coaching there ever since. I have coached one year I2, two years K1 and two years K2. I am now currently coaching I2 again. And extremely excited to be doing so. I have my level 1 pipe and park and I am a level two certified coach through the Canadian Ski coaches federation.
My philosophy on coaching I2 has two parts: my goals and the athletes commitment. I am very much committed to ongoing learning within the ski community; through courses, others experiences, and new challenges. With respect to athletes: enthusiasm, effort, attendance, attention and participation are keys to success. And success is not measured always by results but by improvement. And the athletes commitment to improve their ski racing abilities. I specify I2 because I truly feel that expectations change as the athletes get older, more involved and more responsible. The parents should be excited to have me as their son or daughters coach because I bring to the table a balance of strict work and technical challenges. But at the same time I love to have fun on the hill. I also feel a have a spark of enthusiasm that makes it easy for me to instil passion for the sport of ski racing into the athletes I coach. |

I have been skiing since I was 2 years old. I started at Mont Cascades and grew up a little bit in the ski hill bar. After that we moved to Camp Fortune and where did a few years in Nancy Greene. I started my racing career in K1 and continued to race at Camp Fortune until my first year Junior. We then moved to Mont Ste-Marie where I did 2 more years of Junior with Bob Donnelly. This is my fourth year coaching and I love every second of it. I enjoy the company of the athletes and find it fulfilling to pass my love of the sport down to them. |

In K1 programs athletes continue to develop, adapt and refine their basic skiing skills. They expand their racing skills by training for and competing in Slalom as well as Giant Slalom. This level blends the Learn to Train & Learn to Race elements of the Alpine Canada athlete development plan. Physical training and conditioning focuses on agility, balance, co-ordination and speed skills (ABCs) with the introduction of some strength and endurance training. Athletes race in “skin suits” for the first time and skis for each event is recommended.

The K2 program focuses on the Learn to Race phase of athlete development. In addition to the continued development of basic skiing and racing skills, strength and endurance training become a more significant part of training. Athletes are challenged to adapt and refine the skiing and racing skills they have learned, while learning new skills. Consistent with their growing skills and physical capacities, most K2 racers will train for and race Slalom, Giant Slalom & Super-G. At the K2 level there is the opportunity to earn a place on the regional elite team operated jointly by the Outaouais Ski Zone of SQA and the National Capital District of Alpine Ontario.
Ages 15 – 18
The Junior program focuses on the Quebec “Championat Junior Provincial” series races. The blend of good competition at these races, as well as the fun that we have going to these races is what the junior program is all about.
In order to provide an environment that is competitive for all, Junior competitors race in two categories (JA & JB) grouping athletes of like ability: JA and JB. The national points system is used to establish the points break for the JA and JB category determinations. The rankings will be set by the NCD-OSZ Junior Committee prior to the start of the race season keeping in mind the size of the field and point differentials.
